What
is Interlibrary Loan (ILL)?
ILL is a service that allows library members to obtain books, articles, and microfilm not owned by the Chandler system.
Who can use ILL?
ILL service is available to any library-card-holder in good standing. That is, the card is not blocked by fines, overdue materials, or incorrect address.
What is not available through ILL?
· Bestsellers and books published in the last 12 months. (Call or email to request new books you want the library to purchase.)
· Videos, audiotapes, CDs, DVDs
· Textbooks and reference books
· Books from libraries outside of the continental U.S.
· Books from libraries in Alaska, Hawaii, Puerto Rico, or any
other U.S. territories, holdings or interests which are not part
of the lower 48 states
· Items for which lending institutions require a charge or
service fee
All requests are subject to review by staff.
How much can I request?
You may have 6 active requests at one time, including items currently checked out. Six months must elapse before a repeat request for the same item will be accepted.
How long can I keep the material?
Usually up to 3 weeks, with no renewals. There will be a $1 fee for ILL items requested but not picked up. This also includes cancelled requests if the item has been shipped.
Why
do I need an Interlibrary Loan account?
With an ILL account, you can
logon to your account and check the status of any Interlibrary
Loan requests you have made. To logon, enter your library card
number and PIN in the appropriate fields on the left-hand side of
this page.
Will I be notified when my materials arrive?
You will be notified by email, phone, or mail when your item arrives. Items to be picked up at the Downtown location are available immediately. Circulation staff at Basha, Hamilton, or Sunset will call and let you know when an item has arrived at the branch location.
How do I place the borrowing request?
After
you have an established account, search for the item in either WorldCat
(books) or ArticleFirst
(journal
articles). When you've located the item, click on the title, scroll down then
click the text that reads
this item
and enter your library card
number.
What
if I can't wait for an Interlibrary loan?
Try WorldCat's
free version to see if any libraries in the area have the
item. To use other area libraries, you will have to get a
card with them. Most public libraries will allow any Maricopa
County resident to get a card. University and college libraries
are usually restricted to students, but may allow community users
to get a card for a fee. See our Library
Catalogs page for links to area libraries' websites.
